For example, if you look in your attic and notice that you can see sunlight through your roof's underlayment, this is a sure sign that your roof needs to be repaired or replaced. Otherwise, moisture will get into your home through these unwanted gaps.

Visible Discoloration or Stains

If your roof appears to be water-stained or if there is a green tinge to it, this needs to be addressed by a roofing repair professional. Green staining on a roof is almost always due to mildew, which is a moisture problem that should not be overlooked. Over time, moisture problems on your roof can make their way inside your home, where they can lead to even more serious issues like mold growth and even wood rot.

Hopefully, you won't have to deal with any of these roofing red flags in your own home. Considering the typical lifespan of an asphalt shingle roof is about 20 years, however, it's only a matter of time before your home needs roofing repairs.
